I Just Can’t Help Myself

18 Mar

Hmmm I just can’t help myself can I.

One of my New Year Resolution was to concentrate more on my family and NOT to take part in any charity challenges in 2013. OK so I’m already off the rails with this one.

This year is Cancer support Bradford & Airedale’s Silver Jubilee Year so I can’t possibly not help raise a little money 😉

The Ladies Moonlight Walk was set up only 3 years ago and I am proud to have been part of that very first event.

50 Ladies took part in that 5k walk from Cancer Support down to Lister Park and back up again. All wearing their best clobber and walking in celebration of kicking cancer or in memory of lost loved ones.

The atmosphere at Cancer Support that night was buzzing. All 50 women full of excitement that they were putting their best foot forward and helping to raise money to help the charity support people affected by cancer.

It was a lovely night weather wise too and I popped along in the car to give the ladies some encouragement at the half way point.

When they all returned to the centre there was a medal presentation and a sense of achievement.

In 2012 the event doubled in size and Nuffield Cottingley agreed to host the event as Cancer support was, and still is their chosen charity.

I was unable to attend this time but the comments and praise we received after the event was amazing.

Not only had we doubled the amount of participants but the fundraising had gone from £6,000 to £11,600 in one short year.

Having been part of behind the scenes at this event for 2 years, and seen first hand just how much time and effort our Community Fundraiser puts into the event, I thought it would be nice to experience what the participants experience so I can truly say I have done it and recommend it to other people.

So here I am taking part in one of my less challenging events but you know what I don’t care. It’s a walk with 99 other women, around my local area, with people I work with and help support and for a charity that I love.

So dig deep and watch out for the post event blog post xx
